  • I’m attending an event there, where do I park?
Please check with the person hosting the event you are attending. Chances are you will be able to park near the center in one of the lots on Shealy Drive. See “Getting here” for directions. Please keep in mind all UF decal parking restrictions apply unless the lot has been reserved with a University Police Department Parking attendant for your event. The person hosting your event will be able to tell you the appropriate lot to park or how to obtain a temporary decal.
  • Who can rent the center?
The Straughn IFAS Extension Professional Development Center aims to provide an outstanding environment primarily for IFAS sponsored workshops, meetings and events as well as events conducted by the rest of the University of Florida community. When appropriate, the center is also available to events sponsored by non-profits, government agencies and organizations and companies. Rates and additional charges differ depending on the type of group sponsoring the event.
  • How do I tour the center? I stopped by but the doors were locked.
The Straughn Extension Center will be locked when not in use. Please contact Gabi O'Grady to arrange a tour. See "Contact Us" for more information.
  • Is my event the only event in the building?
This depends on type of reservations received.  If you have rented the majority of the space at the center it is likely, but not guaranteed, that your event will be the only one held at that time. Renting the entire center is the only way to ensure another event will not be held simultaneously. Please check with center coordinator to confirm the answer to this question.
  • Do you provide A/V support?
The center coordinator provides very limited A/V support.  Each room was designed with a very user friendly touch screen system. You may request a brief 101 with the center coordinator prior to your event for instructions on how to load your presentations, connect a laptop, turn on the projector and adjust the volume.   If you require additional A/V needs including Polycom, please consider arranging additional support from Video and Collaboration Services or the IFAS Help Desk.
  • Do I have to use Classic-Fare Catering?
No. But please choose one of the caterers on our Approved List. Classic Fare is one of many caterers on our growing list.
